Conserving Battery Power

By laptopsbattery - May 25th, 2009, 22:30, Category: General

Conserving Battery Power

Perform the following actions to conserve battery power:

  • Connect the computer to an electrical outlet when possible because battery life is largely determined by the number of times the battery is used and recharged.
  • Place the computer in standby mode or hibernate mode (see Power Management Modes) when you leave the computer unattended for long periods of time.
  • Use the Power Management Wizard (see Configuring Power Management Settings) to select options to optimize your computer's power usage. These options can also be set to change when you press the power button, close the display, or press <Fn><Esc>.

Charging the Battery

NOTE: With Dell? ExpressCharge?, when the computer is turned off, the AC adapter charges a completely discharged Dell 1300 battery to 80 percent in about 1 hour and to 100 percent in approximately 2 hours. Charge time is longer with the computer turned on. You can leave the battery in the computer for as long as you like. The battery's internal circuitry prevents the battery from overcharging.

NOTE: If you want to use a 9-cell inspiron 1300 battery to obtain Dell ExpressCharge, you need to use it in conjunction with a 90-W AC adapter.

When you connect the computer to an electrical outlet or install a battery while the computer is connected to an electrical outlet, the computer checks the battery charge and temperature. If necessary, the AC adapter then charges the battery and maintains the battery charge.

If the battery is hot from being used in your computer or being in a hot environment, the battery may not charge when you connect the computer to an electrical outlet.

The Dell 6000 battery is too hot to start charging if the light flashes alternately green and orange. Disconnect the computer from the electrical outlet and allow the computer and the battery to cool to room temperature. Then connect the computer to an electrical outlet to continue charging the battery.

Replacing the Battery

CAUTION: Before performing these procedures, turn off the computer, disconnect the AC adapter from the electrical outlet and the computer, disconnect the modem from the wall connector and computer, and remove any other external cables from the computer.

CAUTION: Using an incompatible GD761 or U4873 battery may increase the risk of fire or explosion. Replace the battery only with a compatible battery purchased from Dell. The battery is designed to work with your Dell? computer. Do not use a battery from other computers with your computer.

NOTICE: You must remove all external cables from the computer to avoid possible connector damage.

    To remove the battery:
  • If the computer is connected to a docking device (docked), undock it. See the documentation that came with your docking device for instructions.
  • Ensure that the computer is turned off or in hibernate mode (see Hibernate Mode).Slide the two battery-bay latch releases on the bottom of the computer toward the sides of the computer until they are engaged.
  • Grasp the battery by the Dell 1525 battery tab and slide the battery horizontally toward the front of the computer.
  • Lift to remove the battery from the bay.

To replace the battery, follow the removal procedure in reverse order.

    Storing a Battery

Remove the Dell 1520 battery when you store your computer for an extended period of time. A battery discharges during prolonged storage. After a long storage period, recharge the battery fully before you use it.

Dell battery User's Guide: Checking the Battery Charge

By laptopsbattery - May 24th, 2009, 21:58, Category: General

Dell battery User's Guide: Checking the Battery Charge

The Dell QuickSet Battery Meter, the Microsoft Windows Power Meter window and icon, the XPS m140 battery charge gauge, and the low-battery warning provide information on the battery charge.

Dell? QuickSet Battery Meter

If Dell QuickSet is installed, press

to display the QuickSet Battery Meter. The inspiron e1705 Battery Meter displays status, battery health, charge level, and charge completion time for the battery in your computer.

Microsoft? Windows? Power Meter

The Windows Power Meter indicates the remaining 40D battery grip charge. To check the Power Meter, double-click the icon on the taskbar.

If the computer is connected to an electrical outlet, a icon appears.

Charge Gauge

Before you insert a DV1000 battery, press the status button on the battery charge gauge to illuminate the charge-level lights. Each light represents approximately 20 percent of the total battery charge. For example, if the battery has 80 percent of its charge remaining, four of the lights are on. If no lights appear, the battery has no charge.

Health Gauge

The battery operating time is largely determined by the number of times it is charged. After hundreds of charge and discharge cycles, DV2000 battery lose some charge capacity, or battery health. To check the battery health, press and hold the status button on the battery charge gauge for at least 3 seconds. If no lights appear, the battery is in good condition, and more than 80 percent of its original charge capacity remains. Each light represents incremental degradation. If five lights appear, less than 60 percent of the charge capacity remains, and you should consider replacing the battery. See Specifications for more information about the battery operating time.

NOTICE: To avoid losing or corrupting data, save your work immediately after a low-battery warning. Then connect the computer to an electrical outlet, or install a second battery in the media bay. If the battery runs completely out of power, hibernate mode begins automatically.

A low-battery warning occurs when the battery charge is approximately 90 percent depleted. The computer beeps once, indicating that minimal battery operating time remains. During that time, the speaker beeps periodically. If two DV4000 batteries are installed, the low-battery warning means that the combined charge of both batteries is approximately 90 percent depleted. The computer enters hibernate mode when the battery charge is at a critically low level. For more information about low-battery alarms, see Configuring Power Management Settings.

Go out of laptop battery maintenance eight Mistakes chapter two:

Misunderstanding Five: can use compatible battery charger to charge the battery

Notebook computer power than mobile phones, the most extreme circumstances, the power needs of Dell D620 battery charging at the same time and running at full speed to meet the required machine power supply, laptop charger compatible with the general no, because the various models of voltage, current, or even interface are different, can be common in a variety of notebook "compatible chargers are" likely to be of genuine more expensive than the charger, even if the same interface, if the voltage and current below the nominal value of machinery, machinery working at full speed when the battery may not be able to obtain sufficient charge current, which damage the battery is a great one.

If the Dell D630 battery charger voltage and current much less than the nominal value, or even find that simply can not boot or will boot but can not be recharged, so choose the best power to choose the time and the same original, it can not be found, please pay attention to a certain voltage and current machines to comply with the nominal values of the different products with the plant in general the same interface, but the voltage and current may be different, we must pay attention to this point!

Misunderstanding Six: need fully charged battery (or fully discharger) before store the battery

Or whether it is full-discharge, in fact, is incorrect, put long-term preservation of full-discharge HP DV2000 batteries HP DV1000 battery will lose their activity and even lead to the control circuit protection self-locking and can not re-use, full of power will bring about long-term preservation of the safety problems.

The most the preservation of the ideal way is to discharge to 40% and then save, lithium  are afraid humid and high temperature, it should be placed in a cool dry place to preserve, but the temperature not too low, otherwise the capacity will be greatly reduced, about 20 degrees Celsius is an ideal Storage Temperature.

Seven Mistakes: battery dying, but also for its own batteries

The battery is a lot of people for such a deadly, manufacturers seem to expect someone to do so long ago, many brands of laptop batteries (as U4873) are designed to have self-locking function, once the batteries from the control circuit, the circuit enters a state of self-locking

Only the use of specific means to be answered, before the control circuit will not work, that is to say the same end-of-life battery, notebook Inspiron e1705 battery batteries can not change the batteries, if you can not have to change batteries, please remember to find the specialized battery maintenance company to wield the sword, its own waste for just small, that after the failure of efforts to frustration and frustration is the worst.

Eight errors: 99% charge has been less than 100%, will continue to charge explosion

Notebook Dell 6400 battery & Dell 6000 battery almost no chance of explosion, the largest is the issue of high fever caused by melting of shell, but few give rise to fire, was released by a small number of incidents, the fact is that when the production technology of non-performing, leading to short-circuit in the use of a result, even if Most of this will be short-circuit the battery disconnect circuit protection circuit is not greater damage.

Unless it is in the protection of the circuit before the  short-circuit (before the COMPAQ laptop battery explosion is caused by time should be), and such a thing in my notebook a large number of contacts over the past 3 years, have only seen two cases. It is such a thing in cell phones a lot, in the final analysis or the quality of the battery problem, a large number of poor-quality mobile phone battery assembly, and almost never on the laptop's battery did not sell, because there is no owner of a large amount of models that should be compatible battery production.

The reason why 99 percent to less than 100 percent after the charge is often because the record of the battery control circuitry and battery state of their own bias, the latitude D620 battery has not reached the record control circuit voltage, the power control circuit has been charging the battery in fact has been full of, such problems can usually be corrected through the solution, but even if there is no correction, because the majority of charging circuit will be filled in after a long time can not be disconnected automatically, and even automatically record wise 99% of the current set of 100 %, even the fool has been non-stop design, but also because of the current very small at this time and will not cause harm.

The current laptop batteries are basically the temperature detection circuit, when the Dell XPS M140 battery temperature is too high, most of the control circuit will be forced off the battery to prevent further temperature rise, so this kind of charge to the explosion in the notebook computer battery occurred no less chance of the first prize in the lottery.

No matter how scientific the maintenance measures, the battery will be aging are, like how the magic of cosmetics and beauty maintenance can not prevent the old woman into a maximum of just delaying it, the only way to avoid aging of the battery is not in use (so many people would Select the battery had to), but this 20D battery grip 40D battery Grip laptop but have lost the meaning of the ... ... the battery is always used as the aging time, in fact, is a semi-consumables, for almost all notebook manufacturers regardless of the host how long the warranty, the battery in general insurance for one year only.

If you do the maintenance are in place to calculate the weekly use of a inspiron 640m battery, which can accommodate about one year later remained 60% ~ 70% of the capacity of my battery is probably the case, that if it looked increasingly haggard battery is a torture to you, the best way is do not get down and pray or not turn off power plug , or is it a buy as a backup, as long as the battery and notebook in order to bring value and fun enough, I would like to their sacrifices are worth it.

Go out of laptop battery maintenance eight Mistakes chapter One

In notebook computers, Pavilion DV8000 battery is a love-hate component, it gives the mobile use of notebook computers the ability to continue to work at every turn but a few days compared to a week or even mobile phones and MD, notebook battery time remains a tooth If the cell phone battery can only use eight hours, people would be reviled, but it results in the notebook PC which is the pride of the best, to say the development of notebook computers in the slowest parts, in addition to the keyboard should turn the battery

That there is such a joke: Intel's investment and technology through participation in support of the new battery technology, "For us, the lithium batteries in the 1990s has been good enough," director of marketing for Intel's mobile platforms, said Mooly Eden, "Battery Improvement of teens just like the relationship between young people and the same: everyone talking about, but no one has done. "

Maintenance Pavilion DV9000 batteries notebook computer users has been a hot topic, but in fact there a lot of misunderstanding, in the final analysis from two aspects, one is "thinking does not keep up with the nickel-metal hydride batteries to lithium batteries of changes", while a more comedy, from the phone, because in fact the majority of mobile phone users access to the first use of the equipment repeatedly rechargeable battery, it will take for granted some of the habits of mobile phone to the laptop was an extension of.

I did not intend to cultivate the majority of notebook users into experts, then there is no need, I just want to bring some of the most vulnerable to clarify the misunderstanding and give the correct perspective and practices.

A misunderstanding 1 : the need for notebook computers bought three times repeated charge-discharge in order to activate the battery.

Unless you buy a notebook computer is more than one year of product inventory, or need not do so because there are Pavilion DV1000 batteries in the battery when the factory has been activated, and the batteries in the package when the battery into the notebook, after a equivalent to the activation of the test, so you get the battery in hand, already have been activated, and again three charge-discharge process was an increase in unnecessary depletion of the battery.

Misunderstanding 2: the first charge must be sufficient enough for 12 hours.

This early stage those who do not have the pavilion DV4000 battery control circuit of the Ni-MH battery models are applicable, but for now have a smart charging and discharging control circuit for the notebook battery is a joke, when the notebook computer battery is full, the charge current will be automatically cut off , even if you continue to charge 120 hours, there will not be any change in status, and generally speaking, even the slowest machine charge, 6 hours when fully charged, the rest of the "charge" is just a waste of their time. It is time to get new machines should be fully discharge first rechargeable Pavilion ZV6000 battery.

Misunderstanding Three: the need for regular battery calibration, the total charge released once a month.

Strong memory effect for nickel-hydrogen batteries, which is an essential task, but for Li-ion Pavilion DV2000 battery, the cycle is too frequent, and lithium batteries does not completely eliminate the memory effect, but has greatly reduced the memory effect, if you use the battery is frequent, then you should discharge the battery to the relatively low (about 10 ~ 15%) re-charging, but even if the discharge to the open machines are not (0 ~ 1%), belong to the lithium batteries have greater depth of injury discharge generally every two months to do the operation once it. If you rarely use the battery, then every 3 months as long as the first such operation carried out on it.

Misunderstanding Four: correction to enhance the battery capacity can improve the battery capacity

The so-called correction, when the actual capacity of the Pavilion DV6000 battery and control circuit capacity not the same as the record, the depth of a battery charge and discharge operation, so that a record control circuit to the battery close to the actual situation, this is a true performance of the battery capacity rather than enhance the capacity of the operation, the key factor here is the actual capacity of the battery, if the actual battery capacity than the control circuit in the capacity to record high, correction can increase the battery capacity seems, if the actual Pavilion ZV5000 battery capacity than the control circuit the capacity to record low, the correction will reduce the battery capacity seems also that many people debate the reasons for the effect of correction, keep in mind that correction is the true battery capacity is shown by the elimination of the battery and control circuit between the deviation, as demonstrated by the capacity will increase or decrease, this is the status of the battery itself, rather than corrected by your decision. Correction is likely because the battery discharge when the depth of injury, but a substantial reduction in capacity.

Many manufacturers provide a battery calibration procedure carried out, the Windows version and BIOS version, it is best to use these procedures to correct, Windows version can be carried out while working, BIOS version can not be like this.

Canon EOS 450D Review

Canon EOS 450D is the growth increase over the previous-generation models of real-time viewfinder function, the replacement of the image sensor, increasing the display, which are obvious. However, it's trouble lies in the fact that limited series of targeted, it must maintain the entry-level machine type of control interface, a small and simple as far as possible the fuselage, and even larger as a result of the screen, the back of the fuselage can be manipulated to a more cramped space.

The EOS 450D features:

  • 12.2 Megapixel CMOS sensor
  • Canon’s EOS Integrated Cleaning System
  • 3.5 frames per second
  • 3.0” LCD with Live View shooting
  • 9-point wide-area AF system with f/2.8 cross-type centre point
  • Picture Style image processing parameters

  • DIGIC III image processor
  • Digital Photo Professional RAW processing software1
  • Compact and Lightweight body
  • Fully compatible with all Canon EF and EF-S lenses and EX-series Speedlites
  •
  • Power with the powerful battery grip Canon BG-E5

Product advantage:
     1. shooting a feature-rich,
     2. fast response
     3. imaging noise control

Product weakness:
1, a sense of strong plastic body.  Canon EOS 450D grip in the entry-level digital SLR camera configuration specifications than there are obvious advantages, especially in 3.5 / s burst speed, led, in addition to the focus of nine automatic configuration also quite brisk. But Canon EOS 450D highest sensitivity of ISO 1600 has not pushed the low-end Sony and Nikon models of high

In comparison, the Canon EOS 450D over the previous generation model EOS 500D battery grip slightly larger size, but a number of light weight, it is conceivable that, Canon EOS 450D's plastic handle is disappointing, but not a small volume of the entire body, hands in the steady hands as worthy of recognition.

The back of the fuselage of large-size LCD screen takes up an area of great, and the manipulation of Canon EOS 450D Canon button broke the tradition of earlier and less than the EOS 400D has two buttons, but as a result of the distribution functions of rational, manipulative and not out a significant step backward.

Canon EOS 450D fuselage provides a depth of field preview button, to support the vertical lines and make the shutter handle the battery box, which uses a special rechargeable lithium batteries, with the EOS 400D or before other GM models do not. Canon EOS 450D equipped with a vertical-grip shutter button, command dial, AE lock/FE  lock, and AF point selector button to enable shooting in the same  fashion as a horizontal Canon BG-E5 battery grip.

Change HP Pavilion DV4 1103TX OS Vista to XP

After several hours practice, I have successfully changed my  HP Pavilion DV4 1103TX OS from Vista to XP.  Now let me introduce my experience when you install the XP OS  to your Pavilion DV4 1103TX.

I bought my HP Pavilion DV4 in April 02 in HP store. To avoid some trouble, I decide install XP into my Notebook in April 19 ( 15 days after I buy the notebook, as the HP supply the 15 days free replacing ). Please notice this :The HP Pavilion DV4 hard disk is the ICH9 SATA DISK. Some XP OS edition driver cant support the ICH9. I tried many  XP OS edition to face the situation. Not all the HP Pavilion series laptop are ICH9 SATA disk, that means you dont need to special download the ICH9 XPS SP3 for Pavilion DV1000 battery, Pavilion DV2000 battery, Pavilion DV4000 battery, Pavilion DV6000 battery, Pavilion DV8000 battery, Pavilion ZV5000 battery, Pavilion zv6000 battery.

To ensure the OS change cant effect the HP quality warranty. I called the HP customer center to query the problem. They said that they are not accountable to the broken of userself bios fresh, but they say I can change my notebook OS to XP SP2 without bios freshing. But when I finished my XP SP2 install, the voice card driver cant work. So I must fresh my bios, you only need to notice that dont interruption of power supply when you fresh BIOS.

Please notice that : Please fresh the F11C BIOS program before you install the XP OS, or you must reinstall the OS again.

Now let me install the XP SP3 into my Pavilion DV4 step by step:
  • First download or buy ICH9 XP SP3 CD (the CD must be ICH9 XPS SP3), you can google it
  • Then prepare the F.11C-BIOS fresh program. Fresh the F.11C-BIOS here : http://www.icare.hp.com.cn/TechCenter_StaticArticle/45904/59726.zip
The BIOS only can be freshed in DOS.
  • Next you only to install the XP SP3 into your notebook in standard step. Dont care of the black screnn when installing.
  • After finish the install, you can go to XP edition desktop to fresh all the driver.

About Apple Battery Update 1.3

Apple Battery Update 1.3 updates battery firmware and addresses battery performance issues with the 15-inch MacBook Pro. Your computer's power cord must be connected and plugged into a working power source while running this update. The Apple battery update is for A1175, and cant fits for A1022 A1045 A1078 A1079.

After the Apple Battery Update has been installed, any additional batteries you put in your 15-inch MacBook Pro are automatically updated.

When will the battery be updated?

The BatteryUpdater will check to see if a Macbook Pro battery needs to be updated on startup, wake from sleep, and when a battery is inserted. If in these cases there is no AC power supplied, it will then wait until AC power is present and then check to see if the battery needs to be updated. If the battery needs to be updated it will update it automatically. Wait at least 30 seconds after inserting the battery, or wait 30 seconds after you've logged in with a user account, before checking to see if the battery was updated.

How to tell the Apple Battery Update 1.3 has been installed

In the Finder, navigate to the SystemConfiguration folder:
         1. From the Go menu, choose Go to Folder.
         2. Type /System/Library/SystemConfiguration, then click Go.
   2. Select the file named BatteryUpdater.bundle.
   3. From the File menu, choose Get Info and check the Version.

If the version is BatteryUpdater 1.3, then the system and A1079 battery have been updated.

All in word, the update only for Macbook Pro 15-inch, not for Macbook Pro 13 battery and Macbook Pro 17 battery
